2024 Media Policy

Media Policy

The reason for this policy is to:

  • Accommodate working media quickly and efficiently.
  • Assist fair personnel in quickly identifying reporters cleared for access and media privileges
  • Enable the media to enter the fairgrounds quickly
  • Protect Fairgoers from being approached by representatives working on commercial projects or unauthorized projects who may present themselves as journalists to the public
  • Properly respond to numerous requests for press passes
  • Screen-out non-affiliated persons seeking media privileges

Media passes will be distributed to media organizations on Wednesday, September 18th at 10 AM at the Media Tour. Media organizations will be given a pre-determined number of passes. Staff members are expected to share media passes for working assignments only.

It is the discretion of the Media/Marketing department and CEO to determine if passes are issued.

Kern County Fair Media Passes are NOT FOR PERSONAL USE. Passes are to be used only by members of the working media. Organizations who abuse this policy will be removed from future credential lists. Children are not permitted to use passes and will not gain entry at the gate with a media pass.

With a media pass, you can park in any of the 3 public lots for free. Your media pass does not entitle you to park in Gate 32A or Gate 40.

Vehicles will not be allowed to drive onto the fairgrounds without prior approval. Please contact Chelsey for approval to drive onto grounds outside of the hours the fair is open to the public (i.e. morning hits).

NOTE: Media Credentials used for purposes other than to conduct work on behalf of your media organization while at the fairgrounds may be revoked. This includes all unauthorized persons who are in possession of or misuse of credentials.

Freelance Reporters and Photographers:

Freelance reporters and photographers will not be issued press passes unless they submit proof of employment/contract with a news organization. This could include a letter from a news director, editor, or similar authority. No business cards or bylined articles will be accepted. The letter must be on original media organization letterhead and include a phone number of proper contact at the news organization if further information and clarification are needed. Freelance reporters and photographers must re-submit this information each year.

Journalism Classes:

Media passes are given to high school and college journalism and newspaper staff on a case-by-case basis. An application must be submitted by the faculty advisor to be considered.

Concert Coverage:

All interviews, photography and videography must be approved through both Kern County Fair Media Department and artist’s management. Please contact Chelsey Roberts for more information.

Thank you for your cooperation. We look forward to seeing you September 18 - 29.
